BURNIE OPEN DAY (March 2005)

On Sunday 13 March, Rex gave 1,500 Burnie residents many good reasons to head down to Burnie Airport in Wynyard. Designed especially for children and families, a special Open Day was put together to raise awareness of and support for Rex. Our approach of being high profile in the local community and being ready to assist in local activity has always been a strength of Rex.

As the first flight from Melbourne touched down at 10.10am, the Rex Open Day got off to a rousing start with band music, children's rides & a fun-filled day of non-stop entertainment.

The Saab stood proudly in front of the Open Day grounds, taking off in style for three sold-out scenic flights to Cradle Mountain and the Tamar Valley for a spectacular bird's eye view of Burnie and the coast. The full-day event included many family-oriented activities – children's rides, BBQ, live musical performances, circus shows, an ultra Light display, Western Aviation Flight School display, bumper cars and much more. There was plenty of giveaways all day, along with a children's colouring-in competition. Unfortunately, the fun had to come to an end, and to cap off a memorable day, one lucky resident walked away with the grand prize of a return ticket to Melbourne to watch the Lion King live!

We had great support from the Burnie City Council and Burnie Airport Corporation in preparation for the event.

Rex Managing Director, Geoff Breust said that organising the Burnie Open Day was a great way to assist the local community in the name of good fun and for a good cause.

It was gratifying to see people of all ages, coming to support us, as well as the charities of Rex. All of the proceeds from the day had been pledged to two deserving local charities - Arthur Support School and Big hART.

Big hART is a Tasmanian-based organisation that works on projects with youth at risk in North West Tasmania and other regions of Australia while Arthur Support School looks after children with disabilities and is based in Burnie.
