MARYBOROUGH OPEN DAY (September 2007)

There’s no better way to celebrate than with a party, and on the eve of Rex’s entry to Queensland, we invited the whole of Maryborough along.
Joining forces with the Maryborough City Council, Rex flew one of its renowned Family Open Days to Maryborough on 29 September 2007, to provide a fun day out for the local community and show what we’re all about by raising $3,600 for the Maryborough Branch of the Queensland Cancer Council.
A plane load of Rex staff touched down in beautiful Maryborough to kick off festivities at 10.00am. The Rex scenic flights with our Saab 340 were a big hit as usual and many first time flyers had a wonderful time not only experiencing the exhilaration of flight but also a unique bird’s eye view of the area where they live.
Mary Poppins and Admiral Boom along with his canon made a special appearance, while belly dancers and other local live performances kept the crowd entertained. The local Aero Club cooked up a storm and of course the kids enjoyed a merry-go-round, jumping castle, face painting, free helium balloons and a colouring-in competition.
A big thank you goes out to the Maryborough City Council, De Bortoli Wines, the Maryborough Aero Club, Hotel Grand Chancellor Brisbane and of course all the Rex staff who volunteered on the day.

OPEN DAY (April 2007)

‘Rex
the Sexy’ or ‘Rex the Flying Cigar’ are some of the common names that Rex goes
by in Taree. Some locals also call Rex ‘The Fun Airline’.
Rex
Open Day at Taree, which went from 10am to 4pm, was a great success despite the
day looking as though it would be a wash out in the early hours. The day went
very well and the weather looked up by midday. The official opening was
officiated by Deputy Mayor Wendy McHugh, who stood in for Eddie Loftus, Mayor
of Taree, who was unfortunately called away at last minute.
All
three scenic flights of the city and the surrounding areas were sold out and
these flights were one of the main attractions of the event. The Aircraft
Inspection too was very successful and accommodated about 100 visitors,
including some who had never boarded an aircraft before!
There
was plenty to do on the ground too, namely the market stalls and the BBQ
sizzle, organised by Taree Rotary Club, along with the entertainment provided
by some local musical talent. The kids were occupied with free helium balloons,
a jumping castle and face painting, which were all very successful.

Taree
Volunteer Rescue Association put on a great display – they cut open a car to
show how they remove the injured and deceased from car wrecks.
It
was a fantastic day and $3,320 was raised, along with the sales from corporate
merchandise totaling $462.65, which will be donated to the Taree Volunteer
Rescue Association. The Taree Volunteer Rescue Association will use most of the
funds raised to purchase vital equipment used in its rescue missions.
We
would also like to thank sponsors and supporters of the Open Day including
Shell Aviation, De Bortoli, Greater Taree City Rotary Club, the Market Stalls,
the Greater Taree City Band, Carmen’s School of Dance, the Taree Christian
Community School Choir and the Taree Volunteer Rescue Association for taking
part in the event.

Rex held the first open day of 2006 in the place
of many crows, more popularly known as Wagga Wagga. Home to more than 100 Rex
staff from Finance, Engineering, Airports, Network Strategy and Staff Travel,
Wagga Wagga Airport
transformed into country fair for local charity Sunflower House on a sunny
Saturday 23 September.
It was a beautiful spring day when staff &
family from across the three companies of the Rex Group in Sydney, Melbourne,
Adelaide, Dubbo and Orange descended on Rex’s country home town of Wagga Wagga
to host a huge Family Open Day which went from 10am to 4pm. Gusty winds on the
day before the Open Day could not blow away the ever-strong team spirit present
in Wagga as volunteers from various departments pulled together to put up the
marquees and prepare for a very busy Saturday.
The three Rex scenic flights of the city and
surrounding areas were a main attraction, along with helicopter rides from the
Wagga Wagga Air Centre, but there was plenty to do and see on the ground as
well. The hanger was opened and we saw first hand how our planes are maintained
from the engineering sideof things. Having an aircraft from each of the
operating entities on display attracted much interest – Saab, Learjet and
B1900.
We enjoyed music and entertainment from three
local school bands as well as pony rides, a jumping castle & bucking bull
and face painting. Rotary put on a BBQ and the famous Farmers Markets had
nearly 20 stalls showcasing a fantastic range of food and hand made items from
the Riverina area as well as live crosses to local station 2WG Radio.
It was a
fantastic day had by all and $7,000 raised will be donated to Sunflower House
which is a facility to support people who are suffering from mental illness – a
very worthy cause. Geoff Breust also presented certificates of appreciation to
the Mayor, Kay Hull and Daryl McGuire for their continued support of Rex in
Riverina. Many thanks to all those who helped out and especially Sara-Jane Uden
who pulled it all together!
