Need Oxygen?

Check-in staff require a minimum of 48 hours notice if you require this equipment. If you have a requirement to carry oxygen systems in Rex aircraft you must ring the Rex Customer Contact Centre on 13 17 13 and advise our staff of the type of equipment you wish to carry.

Oxygen Bottles

Regional Express permits the carriage of BOC Gases Oxycare Travel Packs (suitable for air transport) aboard their flights. If you require oxygen either continuously or occasionally while flying then we can help you. BOC Gases and other similar suppliers provide "C" size oxygen cylinders. BOC Gases offer the travel packs for either hire or purchase. These travel packs fit the oxygen bottle inside which then permits you to carry the oxygen on board. All oxygen cylinders must be contained in the travel pack before they can fly.

BOC Gases will discuss with you how to operate the oxygen bottle. Your oxygen flow rate should be prescribed by your doctor, as your crew is not responsible for this. Simply phone BOC Gases for more information on 1800 050 999.

Oxygen Concentrators

Regional Express permits the carriage of Oxygen Concentrators aboard their flights.

The following Concentrators are the only units which may be carried in Regional Express aircraft:

AirSep Life Style

AirSep Free Style

Inogen One

SeQual Eclipse

Respironics

EverGo

This equipment may be carried and used under the following conditions:

Your physician must complete the Physician Statement Form (link below) and this must be shown to staff during check-in. This statement may also be viewed by the aircraft crew if they require. Failure to carry and produce this statement will result in denial of carriage for the equipment.

Caution – Electronic equipment may cause interference with aircraft systems. If such interference is experienced, the crew will ask you to switch off your unit.

You must comply with the following conditions to use the device on board the aircraft:

(1) You must be capable of hearing the unit's alarms, seeing the alarm light indicators, and have the cognitive ability to take the appropriate action in response to the various caution and warning alarms and alarm light indicators, or be travelling with someone who is capable of performing those functions;

(2) You must ensure that the portable oxygen concentrator is free of oil, grease or other petroleum products and is in good condition free from damage or other signs of excessive wear or abuse;

(4) Only lotions or salves that are oxygen approved may be used by you when using the portable oxygen concentrator device;

(5) You, whose physician statement specifies the duration of oxygen use, must obtain from Rex, or by other means, the duration of the planned flight. You must carry on the flight a sufficient number of batteries to power the device for the duration of the oxygen use specified in the Physician Statement, including a conservative estimate of any unanticipated delays; and

(6) You must ensure that all portable oxygen concentrator batteries carried onboard the aircraft in carry-on baggage are protected from short circuit and are packaged in a manner that protects them from physical damage. Batteries protected from short circuit include: (1) Those designed with recessed battery terminals; or (2) those packaged so that the battery terminals do not contact metal objects (including the battery terminals of other batteries). When a battery-powered oxygen concentrator is carried onboard aircraft as carry-on baggage and is not intended to be used during the flight, the battery must be removed and packaged separately unless the concentrator contains at least two effective protective features to prevent accidental operation during transport.

During movement on the surface, takeoff, and landing, the unit must:

(i) Be stowed under the seat in front of you so that it does not block the aisle way or the entryway into the row; and

(ii) If it is to be operated by you, ensure you have sufficient length of hose to reach from under the seat in front of you so that it does not restrict any passenger's access to, or use of, any required emergency or regular exit, or the aisle(s) in the passenger compartment;

You will not be permitted to sit in an exit row;

Whenever the pilot in command turns off the “Fasten Seat Belt” sign, or otherwise signifies that permission is granted to move about the passenger cabin, you may operate your portable oxygen concentrator while moving about the cabin.

* PATIENTS REQUIRING SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN WHILE ONBOARD A REX AIRCRAFT MUST CARRY WITH THEM A DETAILED PHYSICIAN STATEMENT REGARDING THE MEDICAL NEED FOR SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN AND THE APPROVAL OF THE USE OF SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN. THIS STATEMENT MUST BE SIGNED BY A PHYSICIAN. .
